HALF EMPTY is the evocative new EP from Freo rapper Cruz
Patterson and producer Taco Bellinger, fusing abstract lyricism with soulful, gritty beats to create a uniquely immersive soundscape.
The five-track collaboration opens with the song Hazy Days — a mellow, wine-sipping introduction set in the sun-drenched alfresco vibes of South Fremantle. The second track, Bad Habits, brings back Cruz and Strictly D.T to narrate the tale of “Mr. Obama” over lush
horns, vocal chops, and driving basslines.
Track three, Futra 3000, dives into Cruz’s experimental side, where his vocals glide across a dreamy yet jagged landscape of broken piano keys and distorted bass. On Track 4, the duo brings in Oxnard, CA rapper Omega Nova. Together, they bounce across a funky, headboppin beat that nods to west coast cool.
The project closes with Hungry, a textured and sonically rich finale that gives Cruz the space to dive deep, lyrically and emotionally.
