With a new record from Joey coming up next week, there is no better time to get acquainted with his music than with his debut studio album that is full of crispy and crunchy drums and firm, buzzy basslines straight out of the rap scene in New York in the 90s.

Tracks like ‘Paper Trails’ are perfect distillations of Joey’s best traits: nostalgic but modern production from DJ Premier and Joey’s effortless spitting over a single extended verse that has too many quotables to mention. ’No. 99’ and ‘Hazeus View’ are great examples of this style, albeit with much harsher drums and bass, with more melodic cuts like ‘On & On’ giving this record plenty of variety and staying power.
