Anderson Paak’s- Malibu

This week has to be the modern classic that paved the way for Silk Sonic, Anderson Paak’s Malibu!! By now, most people have finally come around to Anderson’s multifaceted abilities as a singer, rapper, producer and insane drummer through his work with Bruno Mars, but it would be a disservice to not acknowledge where he really hit his stride.

Malibu is his second album and it is an ambitious hour-long record that does not waste a moment in demonstrating how much soulful production and seamless transitions from singing and rapping he can cram into 16 tracks. Opener ‘The Bird’ settles you into the breezy titular location before blasting you with some insane old-school funk cuts like the strident ‘Put Me Thru’ or the groove on ‘Come Down’. Anderson Paak harnesses his abilities so well on here, whether its the nostalgic feelings of ‘Parking Lot’ and ‘The Dreamer’ or the cheeky Andy stylings of ‘Room In Here’ and the memorable ‘Silicon Valley’ (if you know you know!)

By this point, Anderson Paak’s appeal has definitely reached its highest point so far and it makes us very happy to see such talent succeeding in the mainstream. Malibu has finally returned to the racks on a fantastic double LP pressing, snap one up before you miss out!
