Something of a slow burner, Faithless’ fifth album was issued in 2006 and although it didn’t replicate the chart performance of its predecessor, No Roots (which reached Number One), it is also now a UK gold seller.
An ambitious, heartfelt and inventive blend of breakbeat, house, down-tempo and synth-pop material, which showcases the group’s usual high production standards, the album’s title was inspired by the birth of two babies to band members Rollo and Sister Bliss and was endorsed by Maxi Jazz due to his Buddhist faith and the fact that his parents had been new arrivals to the UK in the 1950s.
Guest vocals are provided by, among others, Cat Power, Dido and Robert Smith, who appears on the brilliant ‘Spiders, Crocodiles & Kryptonite’, which samples The Cure’s much-loved ‘Lullaby’.
Pressed as a single disc in tiny numbers upon initial release, this 20th anniversary version, the first ever colour pressing, was cut to lacquer as a 2LP set by its original mastering engineer, Miles Showell, at Abbey Road Studios.
