Portishead's first album Dummy was enormous, selling over 3.5 million copies. The follow up Portishead sold 2 million. Portishead was a critical phenomenon with the international media as well as being wildly popular with music lovers around the world. It would not be exaggeration to say their sound shaped a whole generation of music lovers who are still active and still buying music.
