Pelican has always been a band that’s not just from Chicago, but distinctly of Chicago. New album Flickering Resonance is both a homecoming and a new chapter - marking the return of founding guitarist Laurent Schroeder-Lebec and a reconnection with the rule-free, genre-agnostic scene of Chicago in the late ‘90s.
Pelican leans deeper into the ‘90s post-hardcore, emo, and space-rock influences that have always lived beneath their metal exterior without abandoning the crushing force that defines them.
Recorded with longtime collaborator Sanford Parker, Flickering Resonance isn’t a reinvention, but a focused evolution – it embodies a band that has grown individually and collectively, shifting from catharsis to connection, and finding joy even in bleakest landscapes. This is Pelican at their most collaborative, most dynamic, and most human.
