Manchester-based producer Mecca:83 unveils his long-awaited new album "Until Dawn" on vinyl. Blending his roots in jazz, soul, and golden-era boom bap with a modern sonic texture, the 12-track project offers a dramatic and deeply immersive hip-hop journey.
The lead single "Don’t Stop" features Detroit legends Phat Kat and Guilty Simpson, delivering powerful verses, while UK turntablist Jabba Tha Kut adds razor-sharp scratches that intensify the track’s energy. The boom bap style evokes the golden age of the '90s, showcasing Mecca:83’s foundational sound.
Other standout tracks include:
"Elevation" a futuristic jazz-hip-hop fusion featuring jazz keyboardist Jonny Tobin.
"Proof of Life" with poetic lyricist Nardo Says from New York.
"Sober" a mellow soul piece featuring the delicate vocals of Ella Mae Sueref and trumpet by Donald Malloy.
"Midnight Run" featuring Lex (de Kalhex), known from the French group Kalhex.
Mecca:83 handles all production, mixing, and arrangement, infusing the album with craftsmanship and warmth.
Live instrumentation enriches the soundscape,
Bass by Luman Child on "Silent Arrival",
Flute by Markita on Flute on "The Light Inside".
The album artwork is an original piece by Joel van der Knaap of Roam Comics, known for his graphic novel-inspired aesthetic.
Released by rockwell product shop, the label previously featured Grap Luva (of InI) on the 7-inch "Let’s Get It" and the compilation "Life Sketches Vol.3".
With its rich sound design, heartfelt melodies, and evocative lyrics, "Until Dawn" stands as a future-forward soundtrack at the crossroads of hip-hop and jazz.
