Galaxie 500’s first release of new archival material in nearly 30 years and is their most comprehensive collection of unreleased and rare archival material ever. Its 24 tracks make up the complete Noise New York studio recordings of the band’s outtakes and non-album tracks. Compiled by the band it traces their career from among their earliest recorded moments in the studio to their last.
The release is a compelling 'other side of the mirror' take on Galaxie 500's arc as a band, filling in gaps in their known history while also sharing secrets and pieces previously unknown to show a broader picture. I think it provides a great opportunity to delve into the 'unearthed treasures' aspect of this set while also providing context for an updated historical evaluation of this beloved band.
