The blazing hot Japanese psych rock outfit, Kikagaku Moyo, and their album Masana Temples! Hailing from Tokyo, Kikagaku Moyo have been on a streak with their run of projects, concluding with their most recent release which will be coming later in the year. Masana Temples was chosen to represent this week as it is the perfect entry point into the weird and wonderful world of this band, with equal parts dreamy soundscapes and fiery, fast-paced hazy riffs peppered throughout. ‘Dripping Sun’ is one of their most popular tracks and opens this album perfectly, with multiple phases over 7 minutes that range from mind-boggling psych madness to hushed vocals paired with spare bass and percussion. Tracks like ‘Nazo Nazo’, ‘Nana’ and ‘Gatherings’ all lend to the fantastic concept and blending of psych-rock, kraut rock and folk music, it is a wonder to behold and I envy those that get to experience this for the first time.
